Sat, 25 Apr 2009 @ 07:54 || Diet Update || DietAfter a few false starts, I figured I wouldn't post till I've been back on the diet a week,I started again last Saturday, my starting weight was 266. This morning I'm at 259. Lost 7 lbs in the first week. I had gained back almost 15 lbs while I was off the diet, wasn't avoiding the carbs as much as I should have, and I had zero exercise. I'm joining the rec center today, hopefully I will go at least once a week. The weather has been nice for about a week, so I have no excuses for not walking each day. My near term goal is to be at 250 lbs by May 15th. link to story || 1 comment || Add a comment Sun, 22 Mar 2009 @ 09:06 || Back on || DietThe diet is back on. I went a week w/o major issues with the gout and have been on the anti gout meds since Thursday. So this is start of week one, starting wieght is 261 lbs. link to story || 0 comments || Add a comment Sun, 15 Mar 2009 @ 10:58 || False Start || DietThe diet didn't last long, only about two days. I'm off it again. The gout came back hard Wednesday night. Thursday and Friday I stayed home trying to stay off my feet. This time the gout attacked my right foot. The pain wasn't as bad last night, but this morning it's about as bad as it was Thursday. I can get around, but it's slow and painful. I'll be getting a cane today, so I can at least get around at work. I'm surprised that it hasn't subsided yet, usually if I avoid the high protein diet for a few days it's fixed itself in a day or so. I've found that I'm grouchier and kinda mean when the pain is at it's worse, I probably need to stay off facebook when I have these flair ups. What I think is funny, is being seen as mean by others. link to story || 0 comments || Add a comment Tue, 10 Mar 2009 @ 07:34 || Back on the diet || DietGot the pills to control gout in the mail yesterday. My foot has been feeling ok since late last week. I decided to start the diet again. So this is the start of week 1. I gained some weight back while I was off the wagon. My starting weight is 260lbs. I cheated pretty heavily. Hopefully I will start to average 3 lbs a week again, but I'll be happy with 2. My short term goal is 240 by my Birthday, April 17th. Longer goal, 220 by June 1st. link to story || 0 comments || Add a comment Fri, 27 Feb 2009 @ 08:42 || Diet on hold || DietTill I get this gout under control I'm moving into the pre-maintenance Stage. This week my gout flared up twice, the worse was last night. This time it's in my ankle. I'm out of the meds the ER gave me last month, so far the Doctor still hasn't given me anything to control the gout, just stuff to fix the flair ups. I've got an appointment with a different doctor (same practice, my doctor doesn't work Fridays) this morning.I'm still going to try to keep my weight at this level, between 250 and 255, and plan on starting back up in induction again once I'm sure I am not going to get a gout flair up again. I'm pissed that I was so close to my short term goal of 250, but I can't take the pain and not being able to go into work. link to story || 0 comments || Add a comment Tue, 24 Feb 2009 @ 08:04 || Diet Update || DietAnother week and time to list "how fat is he now"!252 lbs 0 lbs Averaging 3 lbs a week. End of week 15, I didn't cheat as much this week. But did dig into the candy a bit. Need to get rid of it. The previous week's cheating probably did me in this week. I need to stop cheating and get serious again. Yesterday, I went in for the blood work for my doctor's appointment next week. I only have 2 lbs to lose to hit my short term goal. On a health note, my gout came back this weekend. This time in my ankle. I'm a little miffed at the doctor for not putting me on the anti-gout meds right away, he wanted to wait till next weeks appointment. I'm limping around waiting for it to go away again. link to story || 3 comments || Add a comment Tue, 17 Feb 2009 @ 07:10 || Diet Update || Diet252 lbs -2 lbs46 lbs lost so far, still averaging 3.2 lbs a week. End of week 14, I cheated a lot this week. Saturday was the worse, ate a ton of valentines day candy. Also a box of wheat thins (who left that next to my recliner?) and ice cream. I went back on the diet Sunday and was able to still lose 2 lbs for the week. On another note, I am now no longer the fattest person in the house. Shane is 253. He just started taking gym at school, not sure how he was able to skip it the last 4 years, so hopefully he'll slim down some before going off to college. link to story || 0 comments || Add a comment Tue, 10 Feb 2009 @ 07:15 || Diet Update || Diet254 lbs -4 lbs44 lbs lost so far, still averaging 3.3 lbs a week. And I'll probably use ground beef instead of saugage. I might also have some deviled eggs. I bought pork rinds a few weeks ago but didn't really like them, might use them crumpled up on something. link to story || 2 comments || Add a comment Sat, 31 Jan 2009 @ 08:14 || Eggs || DietI've been eating a lot of eggs on my diet. I have 2 eggs either scrambled or in an omelet each morning. The days I remember to bring my lunch, I have a boiled egg and some celery sticks.I've noticed when using the eggs I buy at Costco, I'm always picking egg shells out of my food, but not if I use the eggs purchased from the super market. I wonder if the super market gets it eggs from a local farm and not a mass producer, and if it's the chicken's diet which makes for a harder shell, that is easier to crack w/o crumbling. It's too bad I can get 18 eggs at Costco for the same price I get 12 at the local super market. I'll be picking eggs shells out of the frying pan to save the dollar difference. link to story || 0 comments || Add a comment Tue, 27 Jan 2009 @ 07:45 || Diet Update || Diet262 lbs -1 lbs36 lbs lost so far, averaging 3.3 lbs a week. End of week 11, Weight loss has slowed down. Being sick all of last week doesn't help. I cheated pretty bad trying to get better, yet still loss a pound. link to story || 0 comments || Add a comment Tue, 20 Jan 2009 @ 09:22 || Diet Update || Diet263 lbs -2 lbs35 lbs lost so far, averaging 3.5 lbs a week. End of week 10, starting to lose again. Actually it's 263.4 lbs, so only -1.6 lbs. I got a new scale last week, I was using an older analog scale, this one's a fancy self zeroing digital scale, so it measures partial pounds. My friend Chuck must have a fancy digital scale too as he posts his weight lost to the first decimal point. I'm going to continue to round up/down as it makes me feel like I'm losing more weight. The new scale also seems more in line with the doctor's scale. On my old scale I'm 261 this morning. This is going to throw off the average per week. My next barrier in my weight loss is clothes. I was wearing 3X shirts and size 48 pants. I am now down to XL and size 42. I have a bunch of size 42 jeans, and a lot of shirts between 3X and XL. I have no clothes smaller, especially dress clothes. My current contract encourages business casual, I had been wearing slacks and polo shirts with the occasional button down shirt, (I have no idea what official names for clothes are, I wear what Sukki has me buy). I'm out of dress pants that fit, but have a bunch of like new jeans. I can probably wear these for the next few weeks, but if I keep losing weight I'll need to go buy clothes. The shirts are easier, I can still wear a 3X and tuck in the excess material. I guess it's a good problem to have. Or I can start eating ice cream again, to save money. link to story || 2 comments || Add a comment Tue, 13 Jan 2009 @ 18:38 || Diet Update || Diet265 lbs +1 lbEnd of week 9. Not a great week. Had the problem with my knee, then attended the CES conference on oxycodone. After finding I had gout, I added berries into my diet, other than that I don't think I departed too much from my diet, but ended up gaining a pound. This throws my weekly average off, 3.6 lbs a week. Once I'm past this gout, I'll take the berries out of my diet and see if I can get back into the induction phase of Atkins, till then, I guess I'm in OWL. This week, I'll see if my knee behaves enough to exercise some. link to story || 0 comments || Add a comment Thu, 08 Jan 2009 @ 07:43 || Maybe it is the diet || DietQuotes from About.comGout is often related to an inherited abnormality in the body to process uric acid. Uric acid levels can become elevated by eating a lot of purine-rich foods such as meats, by the overproduction of uric acid by the body, or if the kidneys do not eliminate excess uric acid. Dietary alterations are recommended, such as avoiding a purine-rich diet. Other preventive measures include maintaining adequate fluid intake, weight reduction, reduction in alcohol consumption, and medications to reduce hyperuricemia.
Quote from How To Be Atkins Diet And Gout Friendly
Not sure why the ER doctor missed this, I told him multiple times I was on Atkins and he congratulated my weight loss and told me to keep going. I'd rather stay on the diet, so I'll be looking on how to reduce the Uric Acid w/o staying away from the protein rich diet. Or move away from the induction phase of Atkins and into OWL :(.

So far so good. I have the CES conference in Vegas this weekend. I'm going to try to stay on the diet, but I'm not going to go out of my way. I'd like to keep doing the 4 lbs a week, but will be happy with 2. Somehow I've screwed my right knee up. Don't recall hurting it, I woke up Saturday and it hurt like a bitch. It bothered me all day yesterday at work and is still sore, bad enough I'm limping around. I'm hoping it clears up before Friday, I don't want to limp around the conference. link to story || 0 comments || Add a comment Thu, 01 Jan 2009 @ 10:30 || Vitamins || DietI figured I'd need help getting past my usual plateau of 285 lbs. Also, the Atkins book stressed the need to take supplements during induction. I read the vitamin section carefully, looked up everything it suggested online, on multiple webmd type sites, and referred some questions to Elyse, who is a weath of information on nutritional supplements. Here is what I've been taking each day for the last four weeks.
Thats a lot of pills, plus I take the 3 meds I was on for Diabetes and Chosterol before starting the diet. I'm currently taking all the pills in the morning before I eat, but I'm looking at spreading it out during the day. link to story || 0 comments || Add a comment Tue, 30 Dec 2008 @ 07:37 || Diet Update || DietEnd of week 7.268 lbs -30 lbs 5 lbs this week. Averaging 4.2 lbs a week. link to story || 8 comments || Add a comment Sun, 28 Dec 2008 @ 10:17 || Sausages || DietWhy do sausages take so long to cook? Maybe I'm doing something wrong.Since I've been on this diet, I've forced myself to eat 2 eggs with bacon each morning. It's not that difficult eating them, it's hard forcing myself to take the time. Before the diet, I would rarely eat at home, I'd grab a pop tart or breakfast bar on the way out. Or worse, I'd grab a egg McMuffin on the road. Once dressed, I'm inclined to leave the house, not stop and cook. I found a Boulder sausage that's sugar free, most breakfast sausages have sugar in them, a few weeks ago and have been trying to swap them with the bacon. With my eggs and bacon, I can cook them in a few minutes. With the sausage, it takes 15-20 minutes for the sausage to cook fully. I've had to limit cooking the sausage to weekends or days I don't need to be at work that early. I've tried starting with both frozen and thawed, the thawed sausage seems a little faster but not a whole lot. I wonder if I should cook a batch up today and then freeze them, that way I only have to warm them up. link to story || 3 comments || Add a comment Thu, 25 Dec 2008 @ 17:06 || Broke my diet || DietFor xmas dinner, I had a large spoon size portion of mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, turnip and squash. I also had a sliver of cranberry jelly and 2 glasses of wine.I thought I stayed under the 30 grams of carbs, but the carb counter says 68 grams. I don't think I had a full serving of each, the carb counter I used wouldn't take 1/2 or 1/4 sized servings. Other than the cranberry sauce, I stayed away from all the sweets and breads. Since Tuesday I've lost another three pounds, that's all I'm looking to do weekly anyway. I plan on staying on the diet the rest of the week, so I'll find out Tuesday morning if my extra carbs today mattered much. Maybe I'll add the exercise back in tonight. link to story || 1 comment || Add a comment |
