Today I had a doctors appointment that didn't really give me good news. I took today off as I didn't really take yesterday off and I had the doctors appointment awkwardly scheduled in the middle of the morning on the other side of Denver.

I saw a ears, nose and throat specialist and he pretty much recommended a replacement of my nose, removal of my tonsils and removal of excess tissue in my sinuses and my throat, really gross stuff. I have always had shortness of breath, but written it off to being serious out of shape. They said my breathing contributed to my past weight problems, and is part of the reason I'm now having problems trying to get control of my weight, so my regular doctor wants me to take care of it.

A few weeks ago they had me do a home sleep test, and I apparently failed, my overnight oxygen levels were too low, so now both the specialist and my family doctor want me to go into a sleep clinic to do an overnight test. I really don't want to do this, I don't have problems sleeping, I sleep like a log, and very rarely wake up, maybe it's because I'm half dead? I've been told that at times it looks like I stop breathing in my sleep and then gasp for air and start breathing again, but I doubted the stories. I was hoping the specialist would let me skip the sleep test after he recommended the surgery, but he said it was a good idea and wants to wait till after the tests before he schedules me for the knife.

I'm scared to think what the recovery time is going to be like for that kind of operation. I can't imagine it's pleasant or short. Theres a lot happening at work and I don't want to be out of action for any length of time in the foreseeable future. Not something I'm looking forward to.

Fri, 18 Apr 2008 @ 21:36 || Happy BDay || Home

Yesterday was my 40th Bday.

I took the day off but ended up going into work around 9am as I was bored. No one else was home, the kids were in school and Sukki was at work. I was going to watch TV all day, but after the first hour of the Today show I gave up and drove into work.

I was surprised by a card on my desk. Beth, Heather and Elyse gave me some gift cards and movie passes :) Thanks all! :)

I tried not to do any annoying work, I spent time doing some web stuff, rebuilding a linux server and talking with the staff. I went home after Shane called the office wondering why I wasn't home.

Sukki wanted to go up to the casinos. Not her birthday, but I went anyway. We had a coupon for two free dinners and I had been collecting the birthday cards the casinos had been sending me, each promising a free gift.

Dinner was great. We ate at the Lodge casino, a place we hadn't bothered going to before. It will now be our main dinner place. We used to eat at the Capri casino, but the Lodge is a lot better.

We arrived at Blackhawk around 8pm, and stayed till the casinos closed at 1:45am. I hit a $1 slot machine for $1000 at Fitzgerald's and won a few hundred bucks at some of the other casinos. We casino hopped, as I was cashing in the birthday cards for swag, didn't get anything earth shattering, but had fun going from casino to casino. Sukki and I also get the free cash coupons in the mail and between us we had about $120 bucks of free money. When the night was over we more than doubled our money, and had a free dinner.

Tonight the kids gave me some bday presents. I got a bunch of rubber duck related things, a key chain and some towels, a box set from the Kinks, a pedometer and a shower CD\radio.
